John George Bibilos, 70 succumbed to cancer on January 5, 2004, after an extended illness.Mr. Bibilos was born in Boston, MA on April 23, 1933 and has resided in Melrose since 1971.He is the son of the late George and Sophia Bibilos.
Upon graduating from Boston English High School, Mr. Bibilos attended Bryant and Stratton Business School.He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.After his tour of duty in the Army, Mr. Bibilos worked in the real estate and insurance business.For many years he was a cookie distributor for the Stella D'Oro Biscuit Company in Arlington.Upon his retirement he went to work at Bloomers, the family flower shop located in Malden.
Mr. Bibilos was an active member of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn and has served on the Parish Council for numerous Terms.Mr. Bibilos was active in the Theodore Zorbas Chapter of the Order of AHEPA, the PHAROS club, which is a group of Greek-Americans whose families came from the Turkish village of Alatsateon.Mr. Bibilos also served as Cubmaster of Pack 610 in Melrose, when his sons were active in the Scouts in the 1970s.In addition, Mr. Bibilos was also an active member of Golden Rule Lodge of Masons in Wakefield, MA.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kaye (Chaconas) Bibilos.He is also survived by his children, George Bibilos and his wife, Doreen and Michael Bibilos and Suzanne Bibilos, all of Melrose.He was also "Papou" to Elena Nicole and Christina Marie.He is also survived by a sister, Marie Bibilos of Melrose
