John H. Bishop, of Jefferson, New Hampshire and formerly a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Monday evening, August 19, 2013, at age 69.
John was born on November 22, 1943 in Malden, the son of the late Dorothy R. (Chase) and Clarence H. Bishop.He was raised in Malden, where he graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1962.John served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.He worked for 22 years as a Security Officer at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.After retiring, he worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Jefferson, NH.
John had a few simple needs in life that brought him happiness.He loved his many dogs, Brandy, Taffy, Scout, Abby, Katie and most recently Ellie.After he and Carolyn moved to New Hampshire in 2001, he enjoyed the small town feel and beauty of Jefferson and the White Mountains, and loved working at Santa's Village where he operated the rides and sold slush.
John was the loving husband of Carolyn J. (Boyd) Bishop with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.Devoted father of Steven J. Bishop and his wife Susan of Tewksbury, and Phillip R. Bishop and his wife Carrie of Middleton.Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Thomas, Corey, Hailey, and Ashton.
Relatives and friends will honor John's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, August 25 from 2-6PM, and again for his Funeral Service celebrated on Monday at 10AM. Interment with US Army military honors at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
