John V. "Bud" Curry, age 82
of Winchester and West Harwich, died Wednesday September 22, 2004 after a brief illness at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester.
"Bud" was born July 14, 1922 in Brookline, MA, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Ward) Curry. "Bud" was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Brookline. He graduated from the Boston College Business School, class of 1945. He enlisted in the Navy and attended Officer Candidate School. In 1944 he was assigned to the Philippines to assist in establishing the Naval Supply Depot at Subic Bay. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and at that time was Supply Officer of an aircraft carrier. He devoted his entire forty-one year career to the Insurance Industry, retiring in 1987 as President of Insurance Associates, an independent insurance agency located in Burlington and Medford, MA.He earned the CPCU designation (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) in 1953 and was a past president of the Boston Chapter.
"Bud" was a member of the Catholic Alumni Sodality for 48 years, serving as President and as a member of the Board of Government; and in 1985 received the Sodality Award of the "Outstanding Sodalist". In 1985, he received a Papal Honor and was invested as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre; and was recently promoted to "Knight of the Grand Cross" in the order. "Bud" and his wife, Peg, enjoyed summers on Cape Cod in West Harwich playing golf and winters in Naples, FL.In business and for relaxation, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Hawaii.
"Bud" was the belovedhusband of Margaret M. "Peg" (Kelly) Curry. Devoted father of John V. "Jack" Curry Jr. and his wife, Janet of Burlington, Brian P. Curry and his wife, Toni of Cockeysville, MD and Michael T. Curry and his wife, Kate of Winchester.Brother of Thomas Curry of Westborough and the late Albert and Joseph Curry. Brother in law of ReverendPatrick J. Kellyof Woburn.Grandfather of John, Scott, Timothy, Christopher, Colleen, Michael, Kevin and Dianna.
Funeral from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Monday September 27th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Eulalia's Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-6 PM.Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
