Jack J. Hickey, Jr., 79, formerly of Melrose, died suddenly Wednesday morning, November 30, 2005, at his home in Exeter, NH.
Jack was born in Boston, MA on April 14, 1926, son of the late John J. Hickey, Sr. and Eleanor (Skahan) Hickey.
Jack proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII andgraduated from the College of The Holy Cross in 1950.He joined his father in the meat business and was a self-employed meat broker for 25 years.He also worked for Foster Beef Company in Manchester, NH.For 20 years he was a travel agent for Olde Harbour Travel in Melrose.Jack was a member and past president of Melrose Rotary and spearheaded the Melrose YMCA Gym & Swim Program in 1990.He served on the Board at the Melrose Housing Authority, was a member of the Melrose Knights of Columbus and was very active with Eastern Middlesex Association of Retarded Citizens (EMARC).He loved to travel and spend summers with family and friends at Rye Beach, NH.He was an avid Boston sports fan with cherished memories of Fenway Park during the 2004 championship series.Jack was also a loyal follower and supporter of Melrose High School athletics for many years.
Jack was the beloved husband of 53 years to Marylynn (Moore) Hickey.Loving father of Mary A. Lisa Hickey of East Sandwich, John J. Jay Hickey III of Harrison, ME, Anne H. Alm and her husband Robert of Norton, Thomas M. Hickey and his wife, Joan of S. Windsor, CT, Ellen H. Lynch and her husband Denis of San Jose, CA, Jane E. Hickey of Lynn, Timothy G. Hickey and his wife, Judy of Easton, Julie P. Martinos and her husband Phillip of Waltham, Christopher P. Hickey and his wife, Christine of Melrose, and Peter A. Hickey and his fiancee, Kate Lommen of Somerville.Devoted brother of Eleanor Head of Chicago, IL, Edward Hickey of Dover, Paul Hickey of Middletown, CT, Richard Hickey of Belmont and the late Mary Ellen Sullivan, Ruth Ziehm and Robert Hickey.Cherished grandfather of Maura, Brendan, Joseph, Maire, Kerry, Alison, Caroline, Ian, Shannon, Erin, Jack, Teddy, Colleen, Sean, Kathleen, Caitlin and Matthew. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA.
