John A. Hurley

John A. Hurley, long time resident of Malden, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 29, 2024. He was 76.

Born on January 27, 1948, John was one of five children of the late Timothy J. and Monica A. (Rivers) Hurley. John grew up in Medford, where he found joy in playing hockey during his youth and honed his discipline through karate for nearly a decade. In 1966, he graduated from Medford Vocational High School and embarked on a successful career in the TV repair industry, eventually becoming the proud owner and operator of TV Communications alongside his brother, Ted, for over 40 years.

Beyond his work, John found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He had a green thumb and could often be found tending to his garden or enjoying outdoor yard work. He was an avid reader who also enjoyed cooking and his daily trips to Dunkin’ Donuts.   In his leisure time, he sought relaxation through the challenge of jigsaw puzzles,  cherished trips to Rockport, MA and Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Holliston.  Family was the cornerstone of John's world, and he played an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren, whom he adored deeply.

John was the beloved husband of Donna M. (Clemente) Hurley with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Devoted father of Rebecca Hurley Niles and her husband Kevin of NH, and Rachel Walsh and her husband Ryan of Malden. Loving brother of Ted Hurley and his wife Anne of Wilmington, Ben Hurley and his wife Janise of NH, Joe Hurley and his wife Marguerite of Malden, and Cathy Ricciardone and her husband John of Lynnfield. Cherished grandfather of Riley, Ryder and Paige.  Proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

John's presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will live on through the fond memories and deep love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace.

Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of John's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Thursday, March 7 from 4-7pm, and again on Friday at 8:45am before leaving in procession to St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

A Celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Massachusetts General Cancer Center, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA. 02114.
