Mr. John M. Myserian, a longtime resident of Stoneham, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at age 90.
John was born on September 2, 1922 in Revere, one of four children of the late John and Mayrene (Gurmerlian) Meyeserian.Raised and educated in the Beachmont section of Revere, he attended Northeastern University before serving his country during WWII.He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a radar mechanic from 1942 until 1946.Following his honorable discharge, he attended the New England Conservatory of Music.On October 11, 1952, he married his beloved wife Elsie Thomson and they settled in Stoneham to raise their family of three children.John worked at New England Telephone Co. for over 35 years as a Planning Engineer and was a member of the Winthrop Masonic Lodge.
John had many interests with his passion and appreciation for art showing through in everything he did.A music lover and accomplished singer, he played the piano, sang opera, and performed in many area churches over the years.For many years, he sang baritone at Christ Episcopal Church in Harvard Square and performed at many weddings and local events.John's appreciation for art led him to several full-time hobbies that, over the years, he would develop into a skill.He made beautiful handmade furniture, rebuilt pianos, sculpted statues, and perhaps most notably, had a love for clock making.For years, John built and rebuilt many varieties of large and small clocks.With his background in engineering and furniture making, he enjoyed the time he spent creating many beautiful banjo and shelf clocks.Later in life, he even taught himself how to add gold leafing to his works of art.Following his retirement from New England Telephone, he found a side job as a piano tuner.
John was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as the beloved husband of Elsie (Thomson) Myserian with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Devoted father of Anne S. Myserian of Swampscott, Joyce A. Georgakopoulos and her husband Costas of Londonderry, NH, and John A. Myserian of Hurst, TX.Dear brother of the late Violet Callahan, Mary Kearney, and Charles Myserian.Cherished grandfather of Andrew, Kathryn, and Emily Georgakopoulos all of Londonderry, NH.Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of John's life for Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, November 20 from 4-8PM, and for his Funeral Service at Trinity Church, 131 W. Emerson St., Melrose celebrated on Wednesday at 12:30 PM.
