Mr. John S. Weber, of Melrose and formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at age 90.
He was born in Cambridge, one of seven children of the late Joseph and Julia (Callahan) Weber.He was raised in East Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Rindge School.At 17, he entered the US Marine Corps, and proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater.He returned home with an honorable discharge, and married Corrine Travers at Sacred Heart Church in Cambridge in 1948. They settled in Watertown in 1952 to raise three daughters and John worked as a motorman for the MBTA in Orient Heights, East Boston. After many years maintaining the trains, John transitioned to working as a representative for the Carmens Union in Boston.His work ethic, affable nature, and enthusiasm for the union, made John a natural fit for the position.After many years, he retired to enjoy simple pleasures of reading the Sunday newspaper, visiting Foxwoods with his wife, and spending time with his six grandchildren.
A baseball player from a young age at Sacred Heart Church, one of John's loves in life was watching baseball. It did not matter whether it was his grandchildren playing T-ball or the Red Sox playing at Fenway, he simply enjoyed the game.John also had a great fondness for the beach, and enjoyed yearly vacations to Cape Cod and Hampton Beach, NH.
With the hands of a motorman, John had great crafting skills.Whether it was carpentry, finish work, or plumbing, John could renovate and rebuild just about anything.He rebuilt kitchens, bathrooms, and even attics with his own knowledge and problem-solving.
John quietly made his family his first priority in life, and his family always found the support they needed in him.He was the rock and the glue for his mother, father, daughters, in-laws, and grandchildren.His personal integrity, family values, and calm demeanor were a source of strength for everyone.
Forever kind and deeply faithful to his family, John will be remembered for his unending love and devotion to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.
John was the beloved husband of the late Corrine (Travers) Weber with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.Devoted father of Corinne Harutunian and her husband Arthur of Melrose, Patricia O'Brien and her husband John of Reston, VA, and Allison Shuren and her husband Jeff of Chevy Chase, MD.Dear brother of the late Joseph, Lillian Fahey, James, George, Lawrence, and Anna Weber.Cherished grandfather of Julie LaCasse and her husband Jim of Melrose, Steven Harutunian of Chicago, and Matthew Harutunian of Melrose, Courtney Cook and her husband Greg of Woodbridge, VA, Michael O'Brien of Weymouth, and Christopher O'Brien of Reston, VA.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of John's life for his Funeral Mass celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Tuesday, February 11 at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors presented by the US Marine Corps in Tewksbury Cemetery.
