Joseph P. Canova, resident of Saugus, and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully at a Danvers healthcare facility.He was 89.
Born on September 25, 1932 in Belmont, Joe was one of eight children of the late Joseph M. and Augustina (Landino) Canova.Joe grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School.Joe served in the US Army stateside during the Korean War.
Joe met and later married his beloved Lorraine T. Gilomo and they shared many happy years together.He went to work as a Machinist for A. W. Chesterton for 32 years retiring in 1994.He enjoyed his work and many numerous lifelong friends.He also served as Sexton of the 1st United Methodist Church for three years.
Joe's first love was his wife and family.He was exceptionally active in the lives of his children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends.He enjoyed family get-togethers, dancing, woodworking, listening to Big Band Music, playing the harmonica, telling a good joke, and going for walks around Melrose.
Joe's big heart, kind way, and sense of humor will be missed by all who loved him.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine T. (Gilomo) Canova with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.Devoted father of Joseph M. (Diane) Canova of Marblehead, Stephen (Maureen) Canova of Stoneham, and Paul (Kaire) of Danvers.Loving brother of Margaret Babb, Theresa Kimball, Angelina Dulski, Florence Nickerson, Anna Marie Stanford, and the late Sebastian Canova, and Dorothy Arena.He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; Jillian, Joseph, Stephen, Monica, Peter, Sarah, Richard and Russell.
At this time, services for Joe will remain private.A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future.Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
