Mr. Joseph Edward Glennon, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on Thursday, April 21, 2011.He was 83 years of age.

Joseph Glennon was born in Boston on November 1st, 1927, one of four children of the late John J. Glennon and Elizabeth (Norton) Glennon.

Mr. Glennon was raised and educated in Roslindale and graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in English, class of 1950.He received his Master's degree in Education from Boston University in 1956. A United States Army veteran, Joe proudly served his country as a Corporal during the Korean War.

A longtime educator, Joe Glennon was a teacher in the Malden Public School system for 37 years.He taught elementary school grades 1 through 6 for many years and served as Assistant Principal at the Holmes, Maplewood, and Salemwood Schools in Malden.Retiring in 1989, he had served as the President of the Malden Teachers Association, Winthrop School PTA, and City-wide PTA. He was a member of the Incarnation Church Choir for 35 years, Melrose Senior Chorus, the Melrose Band Aiders, and member and past president of the Melrose Symphony Orchestra.Mr. Glennon loved sports, especially coaching CYO baseball in West Roxbury where he proudly won the Diocesan Championship twice.

Joe was the beloved husband of Felice M. (Taylor) Glennon with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.Devoted father of Gabrielle Ludwick and her husband David of Chambersburg, PA, Felice Kerr and her husband Brian of Wilmington, DE, Celeste Krouse and her husband Ed of Melrose, Regina Mouradian and her husband David of Wakefield, Lenore DiRinzo and her husband Rick of Palm Springs, FL.Dear brother of Rev. James G. Glennon, O.S.A. of Villanova, PA, and the late John J. Glennon and Frances C. Burns.Cherished grandfather of Andrew Ludwick, Johnny Ludwick, Leanne Ludwick, Donald Kerr, Regan Kerr, Anna Krouse, Eddie Krouse, Celia Krouse, Michael Mouradian, Elena Mouradian, Lisa Mouradian, Joey DiRinzo, and Louie DiRinzo.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Melrose on Tuesday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in honor and remembrance of Joe's life at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10:00 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 4:00-8:00 PM.Interment with military honors presented by the U.S. Army in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
