Mr. Joseph J. Lima, of Billerica and formerly a longtime resident of Malden, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, at age 88.
Joe was born in Somerville on February 28, 1924, one of six children of the late Manuel and Maria (Baptista) Lima.He was raised and educated in Somerville and proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army.His working career spent mostly at one firm, loyalty was strong in Joe's life.He worked for over 20 years at Maytag (MGMS) in Cambridge as a Parts Manager.He was faithful to his family whom he loved dearly.Joe was the type of guy people just liked to be around.From a young age, he played the mandolin, and enjoyed carpentry.He also enjoyed playing pool and checkers with his grandchildren.Joe was a longtime member of the VFW Post #639 in Malden, and loved his dogs Maggie and Skiffy.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine E. (Johnston) with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Devoted father of Brian J. Lima of Billerica.Stepfather of William Rowe and his wife Julie of Wilmington, and John Rowe of FL.Dear brother of Mary Martin of TX, and the late John, Rose, Manuel, and Irene.Cherished grandfather of Jessica Lima, Matthew Lima, Kyle Lima, Candy Swan, Nicole DeVito, Angela Rowe, Michelle Rowe, and Anthony Rowe.Loving great-grandfather of Steven, Joseph, William, and Lily.Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, January 21 from 4-8PM and for his Funeral Service at the Green Street Baptist Church, 179 Green St., Melrose, celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Army in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
