Joseph J. Pyzynski, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away peacefully at the Elmhurst Rehabilitation Center in Melrose on Monday, Sept 18, 2017, at age 93.
Joseph was born in Lowell on April 19, 1924, son of the late Francis Pierzynski and Aniela (Kublick) Pierzynski. Raised in Arlington, he graduated from Arlington High School and served his country in the US Navy as a Sonarman, Third Class.He received an honorable discharge in 1947 after serving during WWII aboard the USS Peterson, McDougal and Corry. Joe met Norma Tontodonato while working at the large printing company, Hub Offset in Boston. They were married on May 14, 1961 in East Boston, and settled in Malden to raise a family. Hardworking and well liked, Joe enjoyed a successful career working as a Foreman in the printing industry.
Joe loved being near the ocean. In his youth, he was an expert water skier, and later, was happiest swimming, boating, and surfcasting from the beach along the waters off Plum Island. At home, he was a great handyman who could fix anything, and loved reading, gardening, and following the Boston sports team. With Norma, Joe enjoyed day trips antiquing, or afternoons out going to the theater, or ballet performance.
With great patience, and an appreciation for the joy of children, Joe had a special connection with all children. He was young at heart, loved to make people laugh, and with his charismatic way, was loved by everyone he met. Joe will be remembered for his caring, warm nature, and love for children, no matter his age.
Joe was the beloved husband of 56 years to Norma A. (Tontodonato) Pyzynski, who passed away the following day on Sept. 19, 2017. Devoted father of Lisa Pyzynski and her longtime partner Mustapha Rhouat of Beverly, Susan Pyzynski of Somerville, and Paul Pyzynski of ME. Dear brother of Charles Pyzynski of Park Ridge, IL, and the late Vincent Pierzynski, Josephine Ruquist, Walter Pierzynski, Viola Quaterone, John Pierzynski, and Helen Bright. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services are private. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Gifts in Joe's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Rd., Canton, MA 02021.
