Joshua Loboda, of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 34.
Born in Manchester, NH, on November 5, 1990, Josh grew up in Melrose, Massachusetts, graduating from Melrose High School with the Class of 2009. From an early age, his boundless curiosity and talent for problem-solving set him apart. He was captivated by how things worked-often taking apart household electronics, much to his family's amusement. Over time, his natural gift for tinkering became a true skill, earning him a reputation as the 'go-to' guy for fixing anything for friends and family. If something was broken, Josh was determined to figure out how to repair it. And if he didn't know how to fix it, he'd dive into the internet and quickly find out how to troubleshoot anything. He enjoyed the challenge.
Josh's journey through life was filled with exploration, discovery, and an unwavering love for the people around him. As an older brother, he took his role to heart-mentoring, encouraging, and supporting his siblings, frequently babysitting his younger brother and sister. His ability to connect with people was evident in every path he pursued. As a young teenager, he worked at a nursing home, forming meaningful bonds with residents while assisting with meals and daily routines, enjoying his interactions and the stories he often shared with the home's elder residents. Later, he gained hands-on experience in the construction industry before transitioning to medical records research, which ultimately led him to his career as a software engineer. In his most recent role, he worked on applying artificial intelligence to medical records, striving to improve patient care through technology.
Beyond his dedication to work, Josh had a deep passion for music, especially playing guitar. He loved camping trips, snowboarding, working on his car, and spending time outdoors. His love for animals remained constant throughout his life, always willing to help out with pet-sitting or taking the family dog for a walk. More than anything, Josh valued time with his friends and family. He expressed his love not just in words, but in actions-by always being available to lend a hand, by sharing his interests, and by making those around him feel cared for and loved.
Josh's passing leaves an unfillable space in the hearts of those who knew him. His kindness, intelligence, and generous spirit will be remembered always. Though his life was far too short, the love he gave and the joy he shared will live on in the hearts and memories of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Josh was the cherished son of Hillary J. (Gray) Poravas and Christopher Poravas of Melrose. He was the beloved brother of Sydnie Loboda of Cambridge, Phoebe Poravas of Melrose, and Jonah Poravas of Melrose. Loving grandson of Cleo and Alex Poravas of Waltham, and the late Katherine and John Gray. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to honor Josh's life at Visiting Hours on Friday, March 14th, from 4-7 PM at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, followed by a Time of Remembrance at 7 PM. Flowers may be sent to Robinson Funeral Home, or donations in Josh's memory may be made to Buddy Dog Humane Society, Inc. (www.buddydoghs.org).
