Judith A. Hernandez, of Saugus, and formerly longtime of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 76.
Judy was born in Cambridge on February 10, 1944, one of seven children of the late Edwin and Mildred (Corlin) Russell. Raised and educated in Cambridge, she resided in Cambridge for many years and later moved to Saugus in 2006. Judy enjoyed her work as a Nurses Aide before retiring to spend more time with her family.
Judy's needs in life were simple. She cherished any time spent with her family, and took great delight in doting on her two granddaughters, Samantha and Madison. Known as "Nannie" she was an instrumental and supportive presence in their lives since birth, never saying "no", and always showering them with lots of gifts and love.
A strong-willed Irish woman, Judy was independent and self-reliant. She took pride in her Irish heritage, and was very loyal to her family. An excellent cook, she was well known for her cooking, especially her famous rice and beans.
She will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered for her love and deep dedication to her family.
Judy was the beloved mother of Richard J. Lopez and his wife Sherri of Alton Bay, NH. Proud Nannie of Samantha and Madison Lopez. Dear sister of Edwin Russell of Chelsea, Joseph Russell of Reading, William Russell of Chelsea, Jane Fahey of Athol, and the late Gail Flanders and John Russell.
