Mrs. F. June (Skillings) Swim, of North Andover, formerly of Melrose and Malden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at age 98.
June was born in Boston on November 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Walter E. and Florence A. (Luce) Skillings. She was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from Boston Girls High School, Class of 1937. As a child, June loved visiting her grandparent's cottage on Nutting Lake in Billerica. Her deep appreciation for family began with lifelong memories while playing with her cousin during those summer days. Her love for family continues in the impact she made on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On January 23rd 1942, June married Eldon C. Swim and they lived in Malden before settling in Melrose in 1954. They raised a family of two daughters in Melrose before Eldon's retirement brought them to Alton, New Hampshire. They lived a short walk from Lake Winnipesaukee from 1979 to 1997, and enjoyed skiing at Gunstock, playing bridge, summertime golfing, and hosting nearly every family holiday for the entire Swim family.
June and Eldon shared a commitment to one another that spanned 70 years. They enjoyed many experiences and adventures together, bringing different perspectives but aligned as a couple to make each other better. For instance, when Eldon wanted to move from Melrose, June agreed but only if they could travel twice a year, something June loved. Eldon agreed and June got to experience world travel while broadening Eldon's horizons. As a couple, Eldon taught June how to golf so they could golf together, in turn, June taught Eldon how to dance, all in the spirit of spending time together.
A faithful woman, June was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Malden. While living in Melrose, she enjoyed volunteering as a driver for FISH and always had a kind word to offer. When not dancing, playing bridge with her dear 'bridge' group, skiing or golfing, June stayed busy at home with gardening, reading or doing crossword puzzles.
With an open heart, and unconditional love, June was a sweet woman who was always gracious, respectful, and kind. At the same time, she loved to have fun, laugh, and had a quick wit and clever sense of humor. Family-centric and with a youthful enthusiasm, she cherished anytime spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. June's memory will live on in the impact she has made within her family, and the love she leaves for future generations.
June was the beloved wife of the late Eldon C. Swim with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Cynthia J. Paige and her husband Edward of Wilmington, and Susan K. Dixon of Middleton.
