Mr. Kenneth Ames, a longtime resident of Melrose, died on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a period of declining health.He was 79 years old. Ken was born on August 28, 1930 in Medford, a son of the late Ernest E. Ames and Minerva E. (Riggs) Ames.
Mr. Ken Ames was raised in Medford, Malden and Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1949 where he was well known for his accomplishments as a track star.A veteran of the United States Air Force, Ken served his country in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post in Malden.For many years, he worked as a typewriter technician.Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church since age 15 and for the past 10 years had proudly worked as the Church Sexton. He enjoyed History and loved the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.
Ken was the beloved husband of Beverly M. (Ware) Ames with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.Father of Gregory K. Ames and Geoffrey W. Ames.Dear brother of Harriet Ames and Helen Rantz both of Lowell, and the late Everett Ames, Leonard Ames and Pauline Hardy.Also survived by three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
