Kenneth R. Ashley, Sr. age 80, a life-long resident of Melrose died September 25, 2003 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a long illness. Ken was born in Melrose, October 8, 1922, son of the late William R. and Mabel (Hobart) Ashley. Ken served in the Navy during WW II.Ken's great love and hobby was spending hours each day at the Middlesex Coin and Stamp Shop, Melrose. He loved bowling and was a very active volunteer at the Milano Senior Center. Kenneth was the husband of Margaret R. (Breen) Ashley.Father of Kenneth R. Ashley, Jr. of Lowell, Richard J. Ashley and his wife Joanne of Melrose, Margaret R. "Marty" DuBois and her husband Peter of Reading and Francis J. Ashley of Melrose.Grandfather of Kathleen McDonald of Reading, Nicole Ashley of Saugus and Susan, Elizabeth and James Ashley, all of Melrose.Great grandfather of James McDonald of Reading.Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Tuesday Sept. 30 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, (corner of Myrtle & Herbert St.), Melrose at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM.Gifts in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. 1 Bromfield St., #5 Boston, MA 02108 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA.
