Mr. Kenneth L. Lamb, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at age 96.
He was born in Malden on May 13, 1917, one of four children of the late Albert E. and Phyllis M. (Lavin) Lamb.Severely wounded and partially paralyzed at age 10 by an accidental gunshot wound to his back, Mr. Lamb survived surgery to save his life and endured many subsequent surgeries. His medical prognosis was for a short life, never to walk, and to never have children. Through the grit and determination that marked his life, he lived 96 years.He endured years of therapy to overcome his paralysis and to learn to walk again, something he continued to do almost to the end. He had three loving children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He earned a law degree from Northeastern University in 1941 but with the coming of WWII, he was hired by General Electric principally in the area of quality control where he worked for 40 years. He was a faithful and respected member of the Masons for 62 years.
Ken was the devoted husband of the late Laura B. (Hussey) Lamb with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.Loving father of Diane Constantino and her husband David of Deerfield Beach FL, Jeffrey G. Lamb and his wife Janice of N. Reading, and the late Kenneth L. Lamb, Jr. and his wife Donna of Groveland.Dear brother of the late Paul D. Lamb, Bernice P. Lewis, and Albert E. Lamb, Jr.Cherished grandfather of Kimberly Kuhn of Wilmington, Lori Donahue of Holderness, NH, Daniel Lamb of Newburyport, Albert Kenrick of Wakefield, and the late Todd Kenrick. Great grandfather of Taylor, Zachary, Madison, Dylan, Danielle, Damien, and Greta.Former father-in-law of Susan Lamb of Haverhill.
