Kevin E. Murphy

Kevin E. Murphy, resident of Peabody, and formerly of Medford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 1, 2023 at a Danvers healthcare facility.  He was 75.

Born in Melrose on February 17, 1948, Kevin was one of two children of the late John J. and Eleanor M. (Rideout) Murphy.  He grew up in Medford and attended Medford Lincoln Jr. High, and graduated from Medford High School.  After high school, Kevin joined the United States Navy serving in Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged in 1972.  He was exceptionally proud of his service to his country.

Kevin developed a love for baseball at an early age.  He played in the Park League for the Hosmer Chiefs when he was a kid.  He was able to make it all the way to being a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League team.  He continued to follow baseball, and other sports throughout his life.

Kevin went to work for the US Gypsum Company in Charlestown where he retired as a Quality Control Manager.  He made many good friends throughout his years at the company.

Kevin married Debra A. Bornstein on October 22, 2005 and they went on to share seventeen and a half years together.

A quiet man, Kevin enjoyed being home with his family and friends.  He loved doting on his daughter Kaitlyn, and taking trips with Deb to Maine, Cape Cod, and the occasional trip to Florida.

Kevin will be deeply missed by all.

Kevin was the beloved husband of Debra A. (Bornstein) Murphy with whom he shared over 17 years of marriage.  Devoted father of Kaitlyn A. Murphy.  Loving brother of Richard Murphy of Amesbury, and brother-in-law of Patricia Ingham, Charles Bornstein, and Henry Bornstein and his wife Lauren.  Loving uncle of Colleen Murphy, Erin Meinders, Timothy Murphy, Meghan Murphy, and Brian Ingham.  Also survived by his cousins Larry Rideout, Chuck Bagnell, Ellen Giannusa, Harry Walker, and James Walker.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather during Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, May 5 from 9:30-11:30am, before leaving in procession to Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd., Medford for his Graveside Service at 12pm with honors presented by the U.S. Navy.
