Mrs. LaVerne E. (Latham) Clemens, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Wingate at Andover.She was in her 100th year.
Born in Victoria, Texas on November 26, 1914, LaVerne was one of five children of the late James E. Latham and Ella R. (Gowdy) Latham.She lived in Ft. Worth, Texas most of her life and in 1996 moved to Melrose to be closer to her family. While in Melrose, she attended the First Congregational Church in Melrose where she had made many friends.She was a kind woman, and loved her grandchildren whom she referred to as her "stars in the sky."
LaVerene was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph L. Clemens.Devoted mother of Lisa Jamison and her husband Robert of Melrose, and the late Michael Clemens.Cherished grandmother of Mary Jamison of Somerville, and Paul Jamison of Nashville, TN.Loving sister of the late Mary Bell Black, and Billy, Warren and Buddy Latham.
Services will be held in her hometown in Texas where she will be laid to rest with her husband and son. Gifts in memory of LaVerne may be made to the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose MA 02176.
