Lawrence F. Goyette

Mr. Lawrence F. Goyette, Sr., a longtime resident of Saugus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 95.

Larry was born in Boston, one of four children of the late Edward O. Goyette, Sr. and Cesara (Cesarini) Goyette. Raised in South Boston, Larry was married on November 30, 1952 and settled in Saugus in 1968 with his family of six children.

Larry worked for many years as the groundskeeper and caretaker of a private estate in Manchester. After retiring from that position, he began working at Roller World in Saugus as a skate guard. Larry was a longtime roller-skater and he quickly fell in love with the job. He was well known as everyone's favorite skate guard, and loved entertaining the kids as they skated. He was a friendly face to many and a beloved fixture, known for his rhythm and ability to skate backwards. He was so happy to have recently celebrated his 95th birthday at Roller World. Larry was also a very kind, generous man who found comfort in giving his time to help others. Appreciative of his family's health and many blessings, Larry combined his generous spirit and love of roller skating by organizing many skating events and Roll-a-thons to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. At one event, he skated backwards for 36 straight hours, and at another skated from Saugus to Ipswich. He was one-of-kind.

Another significant interest in Larry's life was gardening. His front yard was filled with blossoming flowers throughout the spring and summer, and his backyard held the large vegetable garden. He shared his love of flowers by bringing them to his friends and neighbors houses on the street.

Larry was a proud veteran of both the US Navy and US Army during WWII. A true patriot, Larry found particular delight in supporting and speaking at many veterans' ceremonies and events in the local area. This Memorial Day he was so happy to be bestowed the honor of serving the Grand Marshall of the Saugus Memorial Day Parade. He passed his patriotism and love for his country onto his family, as several of his grandchildren have chosen to serve in the armed forces.

Larry will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by all who knew him.

Mr. Goyette was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Grace (Camuso) Goyette with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.Devoted father of Cynthia G. Goyette of Saugus, Lawrence F. Goyette, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Wakefield, Carla M. Hegan and her late husband Alan of Revere, Christopher F. Goyette and his wife Elsie of Billerica, Rhonda G.
