Mr. Lawrence A. Morris, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.He was 89 years old.
Lawrence was born in North Quincy on September 10, 1921, the son of the late Lawrence A. Morris and Rose (Fitzgerald) Morris.
Born and raised in North Quincy, Mr. Morris graduated from North Quincy High School and served in the Merchant Marine.He was stationed in the Atlantic during World War II and after 2 years of service returned home to find employment in New York City.In preparing for his career, he enrolled in business classes and began working for the global services company, Cargill.He married Elizabeth V. Kiraly in 1950 and they moved to Melrose where they settled to raise a family.For 25 years, Mr. Morris worked for US Plywood, a subsidiary of International Paper, and managed wood sales in the New England region.He was a wood specialist who could talk at length about the various types and qualities of wood. During his leisure time, Larry loved rooting for the Red Sox, gardening and enjoyed going for a swim.
He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth V. (Kiraly) Morris with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.Devoted father of Lawrence A. Morris of Forest Hills, NY, Evelyn R. Hecht and her husband Alan of Chapel Hill, NC, and Michael A. Morris of Melrose.Dear brother-in-law of Leslie Kiraly of Orlando, FL.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St, Melrose on Thursday, May 19 at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
