Mr. Leo S. Cipriano, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, at the age of 95.Leo was born on May 13, 1919 in Boston, one of six children of the late Giuseppe and Carmela (Seguso) Cipriano. He grew up in the west end of Boston and moved to Somerville when he was 25.In October of 1965, he married Diane (Francis) and they moved to Melrose to raise a family.Leo retired after 30+ years as Director of Human Resources at Colonial Tanning in Boston.He continued his working career for the Commonwealth of MA, retiring after 20 years as an Administrator for the Department of Public Welfare. Leo loved his trips to Foxwoods, dancing, jazz and Frank Sinatra. He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Boston Bruins. He would challenge anyone to a friendly game of horseshoes and bocce ball.
Leo was the beloved husband of Diane (Francis) Cipriano with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Devoted father of Michael A. Cipriano of Melrose and Cheryl A. Slauenwhite and her husband Frank of Woburn. Dear brother of Janet Cipriano and Josephine Rufo both of Wakefield and the late Carmella Cipriano, Salvatore Cipriano and Dr. Anthony Cipriano. Cherished papa of Matthew Cipriano and Sophia Slauenwhite.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Leo's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, July 7 from 4-8 PM, and again on Tuesday morning at 9 AM before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM.Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
