Lois L. Leman

Lois L. (Chapman) Leman, of Peabody and formerly longtime of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Brooksby Village on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the age of 93.

Born on March 7, 1931, in Chelsea, MA, Lois was one of four children of the late George and Violet (Neil) Chapman.  She spent her formative years in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School before marrying her beloved husband, Arthur Leman, in 1955. Together, they raised their children in the same community that she held dear to her heart.

Lois lived a life filled with dedication and love, working as a secretary in the Melrose School System after her children had grown. Known for her unwavering strength, she became the matriarch of her family. Her determination and spirited nature shone through in everything she did, and she was known for her infectious sense of humor and love for a good party.

Throughout her life, Lois found joy in travel, exploring the world with Arthur. She cherished her time at Brooksby Village, where she built a strong social circle and engaged in activities like playing Mahjong and bridge.  She also enjoyed bowling. A talented baker, she delighted in sharing her famous chocolate chip cookies and blueberry cake with those she loved.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and Lois was a dedicated member of Trinity Church in Melrose, where she also participated in the choir. Her legacy will live on through the memories shared by all those whose lives she touched.

Let us remember Lois for the bright light she was to those who knew her, and for the love and laughter she shared with all. May her spirit live on in our hearts forever.

Lois was the beloved wife of the late Arthur A. Leman, Jr. with whom she shared 54 years of Marriage. Devoted mother of Arthur A. Leman III and his wife Lori of Harleysville, PA, and Jane A. Flaherty and her companion Paul Humphreys of Danvers. Loving sister of the late Chesley N. Chapman, William F. Neil, and Clarence T. Neil.  Cherished grandmother of Robert Flaherty and his wife Carla, Andrew Flaherty and his wife Kaitlyn, Marc Flaherty and his companion Alicia, John Leman, and Sophia Leman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Lois’s life during Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 4-7pm, and for her Funeral Service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 131 W. Emerson St., Melrose on Friday, Sept. 13 at 10am.  Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
