Mrs. Lorna (Maclachlan) Sears, of Peabody, formerly of Melrose and North Andover, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Danvers. She was 79.
Lorna was born September 22, 1930 in Melrose, a daughter of the late Wallace and Kathryn (Butters) Maclachlan and was a graduate of Melrose High School. She was a resident of Melrose for many years before moving to North Andover. She became a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody ten years ago and was a very happy and active resident in the Brooksby community.
She stayed at home to raise her family and later worked as an executive assistant for 10 years at Textron Defense Contractors in Wilmington.
Lorna had a great appreciation for the beauty of the earth and loved gardening and playing with her children and grandchildren. Among her favorite things she treasured most an opportunity to watch the sun set.She was an avid bridge player and wordsmith enjoying crosswords, Scrabble and Boggle.She thoroughly enjoyed a challenge with the New York Times crossword puzzles. She was an active volunteer at Brooksby Village and typed for its Brooksby Villager' along with working in the library.Her family was her pride and joy and she took particular joy in being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Earle S. Sears who died October 13, 2002, and a sister, Nancy Ford of Nashua, New Hampshire.
She leaves a daughter, Donna S. Verolla and her husband, Tony, of Methuen; a son, Craig S. Sears and his wife, Adele, of Parsonsfield, Maine; two sisters, Janice McNeil of Hickory, North Carolina and Elaine Maclachlan of Arlington and her partner, Dan Duryea; grandchildren, Mark A. Verolla and his fiancé, Jessica Maynard, of Wilmington, Michael J. Verolla of Methuen, Cassie Sears of Shapleigh, Maine, Rory Sears of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Gianna and Gabrielle Verolla, both of Wilmington; many nieces and nephews.
CORRECTION: A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2010 in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
