Lorraine was born on March 18, 1938, one of three children of the late Alfred F. and Dorothy K. (Collins) Nye.Born and raised in Boston, Lorraine settled in Melrose with her husband Tom to raise their family of five children.She stayed at home to care for her children, and later worked in housekeeping at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for 20 years.
Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and recently a great-grandmother.She loved playing board games with her grandchildren, shuttling them back and forth to school, and loved watching them play at the local parks.She found great happiness and joy in the times she spent playing with her grandchildren.
For many years, she enjoyed the summer months at the family cottage in Alton Bay, New Hampshire.Above all else, she will be remembered for her love and support of her family.
Lorraine was the beloved wife of Thomas H. "Sonny" Grant with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Linda A. Day and her husband Gregory of Lynn, Thomas J. Grant and his wife Kim of Saugus, Michael A. Grant and his wife Bridget of Saugus, Sean A. Grant and his wife Kathy of Saugus, and Lisa J. White and her boyfriend Daniel Savoie of Melrose. Dear sister of the late Dolores Riendeau, and Jerald L. Nye. Cherished nana of Andrea Day of Lynn, Jared Day of Lynn, Kara Grant of Melrose, Thomas Grant of Melrose, Emily Grant of Saugus, Matthew Grant of Saugus, Kate Grant of Saugus, Nicholas White of Melrose, and Olivia White of Melrose. Loving great-nana of Cameron Day.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Lorraine's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, March 7 from 4-8 PM, and again on Saturday at 8AM before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
