Louise E. (Arsenault) Kelley

Louise (Arsenault) Hordon Kelley, 79, of Melrose, MA passed peacefully in the presence of family after a long battle with oral cancer at Kaplan Hospice Center in Danvers, MA. She was born on March 7th, 1942 to the late Arthur and Emily(Symes) Arsenault in Melrose, Massachusetts.

She was raised in Melrose and was a graduate of the Class of 1959 of Melrose High School. She completed training at Wilfred Academy in 1960 and worked as a hairdresser for several years. Always busy, Louise later worked as a research librarian for Eaton Vance for over 25 years. She received her Associates Degree in Management from Fisher College night school in 1999. Louise was married to Ronald Hordon in 1960, raised her family in Melrose, and in 1987 married Paul Kelley of Wakefield.

Louise was an avid, dedicated and excellent square dancer for 35 years. She and Paul were long time members of Yankee Twirlers club of Woburn as well as the Square Dance Foundation of New England. In 2004 were inducted into the SDFNE Hall of Fame.Louise was a loved, dedicated and respected member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Melrose since age 4. She lent her beautiful voice to the church choir, loved to play with the handbell ensemble and volunteered in many positions: coffee hour to serving as clerk on the vestry.

As part of her lifelong passion as a dedicated family genealogist, she fully documented 12 generations of ancestry going through Cape Breton Canada prior to the Revolutionary War to Devonshire England, traveling there twice to pour over records in public and private historical genealogical records. She traveled several times to the genealogical center of the Mormon church in Salt Lake City. She studied at Boston University to understand the use of DNA as a means of ancestral sources just as the science came to the fore of historical use as well as to understand the importance of narrative in telling her family's numerous stories.

Louise was an avid gardener, and was often found in her back garden tending to the raspberry bushes or her beautiful annuals, before moving in 2019.

She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Emily, ex-husband Ronald C. Hordon, Husband Paul Kelley, and beloved Japanese chin dog, Kikkoman.

Louise was a devout mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She always made the time to make sure that her family felt loved. She leaves behind her brother, Stephen Arsenault and wife Minda of Saint Paul, Minnesota; Daughter Jean Speed and Husband Ronald Of ,Illinois; Daughter and friend Ellen Dugas of Melrose, MA; son Ronald Hordon and partner Sonya Clark of Portsmouth, NH, Daughter-in-love Jennifer Hordon of Rye, NH; grandson Daniel Sherman and wife Sarah ofActon , MA; Granddaughter Alison Kaufman and husband Daniel of Stoneham, MA; Granddaughter Felisha Senf of Syracuse, NY; grandson Jaymes Hordon of Merrimack, NH; grandson Patrick Hordon and partner Rachel Perry of Dighton, MA; granddaughters Hannah Hordon and Abigail Hordon of Rye, NH; great-grandson Brian Senf of Syracuse, NY and Great-grandson Nathaniel Sherman ofActon ,MA. She also leaves behind two beloved Japanese chins, brothers Mickey Doodles and Willie.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Louise during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, Feb. 7, from 4-7pm, and for her Funeral Service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 131 W. Emerson St., Melrose celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 10am.
