Mabel Hinton Osborne, recently of Boston and former resident of Cheshire, CT, died October 8, 2003 at a local nursing home.She was 93.
She was a teacher, radio talk-show host, actress and writer.
Daughter of Frank and Clara Hinton of Bradford, England, N, Andover & Holyoke, MA and wife ofStan Osborne, Holyoke native, of Hubbard, Lawless &Osborne, consulting engineers of New Haven, she was a graduate of Mt. Holyoke and Smith Colleges where she directed and acted in their theatre workshops.
Her radio career at WBZ Springfield, WGY Schenectady, WBEN Buffalo & WOKO Albany continued at Waterbury CBS affiliate WI XBS and WBRY where she hosted 'Radio's Home Journal",
Mrs. Osborne contributed articles to Better Homes & Gardens, Seventeen, Coronet and Readers Digest and scripts for the NBC series "Mr.Novak" and ABC "Room 222".She acted with the New York Actors Guild in New York and New England with Albany, Waterbury & Cheshire community theatres and in summer stock at Oakdale Theatre, Wallingford.
A long time resident of Cheshire, she taught English, French, Latin and Drama at Cheshire Academy & Cheshire High School for 18 years, directing many theatrical productions.She retired in Cheshire, staying with friends in London & Yorkshire, and in Madrid and Miami with a daughter, Jane de Gil and at the Masonic Community of Wallingtord
She leaves a daughter Judy, a psychotherapist of Stepfamily Associates, Brookline, MA, a son John, TV technical director, independent producer & narrator of Melrose, MA and grandchildren Roge de Gil of Miami,FL Emily Hanford, radio director of Chapel Hill, NC, John Hanford, Mesa Airlines pilot of Phoenix,AZ and Harrison Osborne and Eleanor Osborne of Melrose, MA and four great-grandchildren.
