Mrs. Margaret "Peg" (Beers) Whittier, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following a period of declining health.She was 91 years old.

Peg was born in Lancaster, MA on June 22, 1919, one of three daughters of the late Melville Beers and Vina (Miller) Beers. Peg was raised in Hamilton and was a long time active member at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church.She loved flower arranging and was a life time member of the Melrose Garden Club. Peg was also a member of Kappa Delta PSI. Peg was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. Whittier with whom she shared40 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Robert H. Whittier of Melrose, S. Gage Whittier and his wife Dotty of North Billerica and the late Laurel J. Whittier. Dear sister of Jean Abbott of West Chatham and Virginia DeMille of Wenham.Cherished grandmother of Laurel J. Whittier of Kennewick, WA and Paige H. Whittier of Vinalhaven, ME.

Funeral Service at the Lynnfield Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield, Saturday, October 2 at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Gifts in Peg's memory may be made to the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 760695, Melrose, MA 02176.
