Margaret M. (King) “Peg” Rice left this world just two days shy of her 96th birthday on December 27, 2024.
Born in Boston on December 29, 1928, to the late Ralph J. and Mildred (Mulvey) King, Peg grew up in Malden and graduated from Cheverus Catholic School, where her vibrant spirit and love for life first began to shine. She cherished her youth, playing basketball, skiing, and spending sun-filled summers at Nantasket Beach with her family, creating many wonderful memories.
Peg spent a brief period working for Blue Cross Blue Shield before dedicating herself to her true passion—her family. In 1955, she married her beloved Robert Rice and together they raised their daughters in Melrose. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Peg exuded warmth and love, filling her home with laughter and light. Her great sense of humor and enjoyment of life made every gathering special, and she thrived in the company of her family.
Peg’s interests extended beyond her family; she enjoyed bowling and was actively involved in a bowling league in Wakefield for many years. She loved shopping and playing cards, and her unwavering support for Boston sports—especially the Patriots and Celtics—was a point of pride. Those closest to her often remarked on the special bond she shared with her twin sister, a relationship that brought her joy and comfort throughout her life.
Peg leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Peg was the beloved wife of the late Robert C. Rice with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Susan Buckley and her husband Gary of Andover, Karen Mulvihill and her husband William of Coppell, TX, Diane Robichaud and her husband William of Salem, NH, Lori Brosnan and her late husband Sean of Andover, and Denise Collins and her husband Sean of Madison, CT. Loving sister of her twin Rita Coughlin of Alabama, the late William King, and the late Ralph J. King, Jr. Cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Peg’s life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 5-7pm, and again on Friday, Jan. 3 at 9am before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Gifts in memory of Peg may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
