Margaret (Picarello) Sacco

Mrs. Margaret (Picarello) Sacco, a longtime resident of Saugus, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, at age 100.

Margaret was born in Boston on May 12, 1915, one of six children of the late Andrew Picarello and Maria (Marciano) Picarello. She was raised and educated in East Boston and married Alexander Sacco on September 4, 1938. Settling in Medford, Margaret stayed at home and committed herself to raising her children. She was a natural, dedicated homemaker who provided a steady, strong presence for her children.

Margaret kept her faith close to her heart throughout her life. While living in Saugus for 30 years, she was a faithful parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church. A child of the depression, Margaret learned early on the value of budgeting. In her younger years, she enjoyed saving money for nights out with her sisters bowling, playing bingo, or special trips to the Boston nightclub, Blinstrum's. Margaret and Alexander had a love for travel and enjoyed trips to Florida, cruises in the Caribbean, and revisiting their heritage in Italy. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crochet, and going to the movies.

More recently in her 90's, she was adventurous enough to ride a helicopter with her son in Alaska. She loved entertaining her grandchildren with old family stories, and enjoyed watching them grow and develop. Margaret took particular delight in reaching her 100th birthday, and found such joy in celebrating the occasion with her entire family. Above all else, Margaret's care and stability for her family were paramount. She will be lovingly remembered and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Sacco with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Thomas A. Sacco, Sr. and his wife Marcia of Stoneham, Bernard P. Sacco of Salem, and Mary Ann Andree and her husband Craig of Peabody. Dear sister of the late Anthony Picarello, Bernard Picarello, Lena Bruno, Virginia Magistro, and Diamond Dorion. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Smith of Melrose, Thomas A. Sacco, Jr. of Saugus, Jason Andree of Peabody, and Jeffrey Andree of Salem. Loving great-grandmother of Olivia Smith, Katelyn Smith, Carly Ann Sacco and Tess Margaret Andree. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Margaret's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, November 23 from 4-8pm, and again on Tuesday morning at 9:15am before leaving in procession to Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in Margaret's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
