Mrs. Marie (MacGuire) Moreland, a resident of Melrose for 36 years, died Saturday morning, October 14, 2006 at the Harborside of Wakefield Nursing Home. She was 85 years old.
She was born August 13, 1921 in Boston, MA daughter to the late William MacGuire and Doris (Stillman) MacGuire. Marie was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School.Marie had two years of accounting at Boston University and two years of secretarial school. Marie also took evening classes in English and Sociology at Northeastern University.
Mrs. Moreland worked at the Bayside Flying Service in Revere where she received her Private Pilot License for single engine planes.During WWII she kept the records of the Army and Navy students at the Concord Airport in Concord, NH.When Marie wasn't able to fly she was a dividend clerk at Hunnewell and Company and was a stock broker in Boston.
After WWII, Marie went to work at St. Paul's Cathedral in Boston for 36 years and retired as their Head Administrator.
Marie was an active member of Trinity Church in Melrose.She and her husband, David climbed many mountains in New England with several of them over 4000 feet in elevation. She was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.Marie loved English country dancing and square and round dancing.Marie was also a member of the Melrose Silver Stringers.
Marie was the loving wife of David B. Moreland.Stepmother of David B. Moreland Jr. of Richwood, OH and William W. Moreland of Franklin.Devoted sister of Doris Warren of Jamaica Plain.Also survived by 4loving grandchildren.
