Martha Jean Billington, a resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2022, at age 60.
Martha was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on June 5, 1962 to the late Norma Ruth (Duncan) Billington and Thomas Edward Billington, to the delight of her three older brothers: Gregory, Jeffrey, and Scott. She spent the first years of her life traveling with the family, living in Arizona and then New Jersey, finally settling back in Melrose after the passing of her father. She attended twelve years of public school, eventually taking a job as an office assistant at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, where she worked until she retired in 2017.
An enthusiastic reader, Martha was an armchair traveler who loved books about the world at large, and she could not be stumped when it came to trivia about her favorite bands and actors. Her favorite was Robin Williams, who sent her an autographed photograph. She enjoyed her yearly vacation at Ocean Point in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where she swam in the pool and enjoyed her favorite meal of lobster. In recent years, she lived independently at the Communitas homes in Saugus and Wakefield, where she made many friends. Martha will be remembered as a loving and kind person who brought joy and a hug to every person lucky enough to know her.
Martha is survived by her three brothers, Gregory Billington of Rowley, MA, Jeffrey Billington of Kenduskeag, ME, and Scott Billington of New Orleans, LA; her niece Meredith Ragucci and her husband John of Saugus, MA; and her sister-in-law Johnette Downing of New Orleans, LA.
A Celebration of Life for Martha will be announced. For online tribute visit RobinsonFuneralHome.com
