Mary L. "Lou" (Wootten) Garrard died on Friday September 9, 2005 at the Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, North Carolina.She was 74.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, daughter of the late Rufus M. and Helen (Lucas) Wootten, she was raised and educated in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.Lou graduated from Tufts University Class of 1951.She went on to teach children with special needs at Reading High School for 15 years.
Lou lived in Lynnfield for 10 years, Reading for 25 years between Hampstead, North Carolina and Little Bear Island in Melvin Village, New Hampshire for the past 16 years.When living in Reading she was active in the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Reading Craftsmen Group.She was a volunteer tour guide at the Bellamy Mansion in North Carolina for many years.She also enjoyed Gardening and Calligraphy in her spare time.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Arnold F. Garrard; Mother of Steven R. Garrard and his wife Kathy, Scott A. Garrard and his wife Susan, both of Gorham, ME; Linda Koroma and her husband Bannister of Fairburn, GA; Douglas F. Garrard and his wife Chris of Wilmington; Kimberly Ciarcia and her husband Wayne of Hollis, NH and Gale Garrard of Newtonville; Sister of Virginia Wootten of Rhode Island.She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be held in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose on Wednesday, September 14th at 12 noon.A Visiting Hour will be held one hour prior from 11-12 p.m.Relatives and friends are kindly invited.In lieu of flowers, donations in Lou's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 5 Mountain Road, Burlington, MA 01803.
