Mary A. (Gonsalves) Kiddie, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2009 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a period of declining health.She was 80 years old.Mary was born in Medford, MA on May 7, 1929,daughter of Antonio Gonsalves and Albertina (Garcia) Gonsalves.She was raised and educated in Medford. She moved to Melrose with her family where she worked as a school secretary at the Coolidge School and the Melrose Middle School for several years.Mary served as the Chairman of the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund.As a very active member of the Melrose community, she was one of the first women to serve as trustee for both the Melrose Savings Bank and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.Mary was active with the Melrose YMCA, the Mother's Club, Theta and Girl Scouts.She was also involved with helping State Representative Bill Robinson launch his political career.Mary was the former wife of the late Alexander I. Kiddie.Devoted mother of Diane Duratti and her spouse Dr. Anne Falke of Worcester, and Linda Archer and her husband Eric of Warwick, RI.Dear sister of the late Dorothy Willis.Cherished grandmother of Kenneth Duratti, Katherine Duratti, Nicholas Archer, and Chelsey Archer.Cherished great grandmother of Devyn Duratti.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Tuesday, August 11 at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Moss in honor and remembrance of Mary at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 12 Noon.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
