Mary K. (Hunewill) LeBlanc, longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lynnfield on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. She was 88.
Mary was born in Melrose on February 22, 1936. One of ten children of the late Lawrence and Anna (Moran) Hunewill, she was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. As a child, she could often be found ice skating with her sisters at Mt. Hood, and creating cherished memories with her siblings and neighborhood friends.
Mary met her beloved future husband Paul LeBlanc when they were children at the Ripley School. As adults they built a beautiful life filled with love and devotion. First a homemaker, Mary would later work with her husband and son to establish their family business, Larry’s Oil. Mary was the heart of her family, and her love and support for her husband, children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed pursuing various hobbies. She had a talent for baking and cake decorating, as well as creating beautiful knit and crochet pieces. Mary was also an avid bowler, participating for years in a local league. She found joy in annual trips to Bermuda and travels to Maine, where many happy memories were made. Mary loved being by the beach, tending to her garden, and relaxing by the pool in her backyard oasis.
Her compassionate nature, loyalty, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Paul R. LeBlanc with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Lawrence E. LeBlanc and his wife Jeanne Callahan of N. Reading, Paula M. Maloney and her husband Shawn of Wakefield, Lisa A. Jendrysik and her husband Ted of Marblehead, and the late Michele LeBlanc. Dear sister of Lawrence Hunewill and his companion Judith Izenberg, Constance Campbell, Patricia Burnham, Beverly Gerard and her husband Paul, Grace Pinkham and her husband Fred, and the late Robert, Roger, Kenneth, and Leon Hunewill. Cherished grandmother of Jessica Busby and her husband Nick, Brian Cotter, Dennis Cotter, Sara Maloney and her husband Patrick Flint, MacKenzie Maloney, Sam Jendrysik, and Nate Jendrysik. Proud great grandmother of Shawn, Zachary, Kaelynn, and Cillian.
Family and friends will gather in honor of Mary’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, March 18 from 4-7pm, and again on Tuesday for her Funeral Service celebrated at 10am. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
