Mrs. Mary L. (McCarthy) Monteforte, a resident of Stoneham, and formerly of Osterville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Arnold House in Stoneham, at age 90.
Mary was born in Chelsea on September 18, 1922, one of three children of the late Thomas H. and Viola C. (Ano) McCarthy.She was raised in Winchester and graduated from Winchester High School.Mary worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer for many years at Orthopedics, Inc. in Melrose.
As a resident of Osterville for many years, Mary developed a love for the ocean and the beach.She loved walking the beach regularly and collecting sea glass along the way.Mary was a great cook and talented artist who enjoyed decorative painting, and making breadboards, and trays.
Mary will be lovingly remembered as the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Monteforte, and the late Thomas R. O'Toole.Devoted mother of Jean A. O'Toole and her husband Jack Welch of Melrose, and the late Maureen M. Welch, and Martha M. O'Toole.Also survived by Gail Monteforte and her partner James Murnak of New York City.Dear sister of Ruth Ratto of Bedford, NH, and the late Thomas McCarthy.Loving grandmother of 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Mary's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, June 28 from 5-7PM, and for her Funeral Mass celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Saturday at 10:00 AM.Interment in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
