Mary T. Rice, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, November 15, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - The Elmhurst, at the age of 94.
Mary was born in East Boston on January 16, 1918, one of six children of the late John C. Rice and Ellen (O'Brien) Rice.She was raised in Malden where she graduated from Malden High School.For 42 years, she worked at New England Telephone Co. as a Service Representative for government accounts.
Mary was a longtime parishioner at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, and a member of the Melrose Gardening Club.She enjoyed cooking, and for many years volunteered at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.A devoted family woman, Mary was a loving caretaker for many years for both her late mother and sister.
She was the devoted sister of John C. Rice and his wife Mary of Melrose, Joseph A. Rice and his wife Lucy of Braintree, Robert C. Rice and his wife Peggy of Melrose, the late Ellen J. Rice and William A. Rice and his wife Arlene of Peabody.Loving aunt of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, November 20 at 8 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM.Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.Gifts in honor of Mary may be made to the Most Blessed Sacrament Church Building Fund, 11 Grove St., Wakefield, MA 01880.
