Mrs. Mary (Simpson) Stahle, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away in her 100th year on Wednesday evening, February 9, 2011 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield.
Mrs. Stahle was born on March 28, 1910, in Musselburgh, Scotland, one of four children of the late William T.S. Simpson and Sarah R. (Hughes) Simpson.
Mrs. Mary Stahle was raised and educated in Scotland before immigrating to the United States in 1927 with her sister, Sarah.At the young age of 17, she and her sister settled in Melrose and found jobs working as maids.She then worked for Friend Brothers on Main Street in Melrose before working in the sales department at F.N. Joslin Department Store.Mary was also a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.
A proud Scottish woman and self-described people person, Mrs. Stahle would often be seen wearing Scottish plaid and entertaining friends in a Scottish brogue.
Mary S. Stahle was the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Stahle with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Allan F. Stahle and his wife Judy of Bradenton, FL.Dear sister of Marion McDermod of Melrose, and the late Sarah Hennigar and William Simpson.Also lovingly survived by many nieces & nephews and many dear friends.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Melrose on Monday, February 14 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6 PM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
