Maryalice Leach
Mrs. Leach was born July 18, 1921 in Chicago, daughter of the late Edward Fargo and Mary (Karl) Fargo.She was raised in Wakefield and Medford, and graduated from Medford High School. She proudly served as a Navy WAVE during World War II before pursuing her Bachelor's and Masters degrees from Salem State College.
Maryalice was best characterized by her role as the quintessential matriarch of a very large and extended family. She leaves behind an inspiring legacy of love and memories, that mission approached with a happy heart, legendary spunk, and great humor.
She worked as a special education teacher for many years.Her curiosity and intrepid nature led to extensive national and international traveling experiences.
An avid gardener, she was an active participant in the Melrose Garden Club for over
60 years.Her great love for books, reading 2-3 per week throughout her life, led her to being a board member of the Friends of Melrose Public Library for many years.She served as a member of the League of Women Voters and the Melrose and Stoneham Arts and Crafts Society.
Maryalice was the beloved wife of the late Maj. George A. Leach Jr., USAF retired, to whom she was married for over 60 years.Devoted mother of George A. Leach of Melrose, David A. Leach and his wife Nina of Watchung, NJ, and Thomas A. Leach and his wife VeAnn of Melrose and the late Laurel A. Leach. Dear sister of Nancy Poirier of Tucson, AZ, William Fargo of Medford, and the late Elizabeth Kenney, Edward Fargo, Barbara Brennan, and Patricia Sollitto. Cherished grandmother of Megan, Timothy, Carolyn, Abigail and CJ Leach.Many dearly loved nieces and nephews mourn her loss.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor and remembrance of Maryalice's life at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for her Funeral Mass celebrated on Friday, December 16 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Michael Indian School, PO Box 650, St Michaels, AZ 86511 or United Negro College Fund, 1805 7th Street, NW, Washington DC 20001.
