Marylen D. Leving, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - The Elmhurst, at the age of 89.
Marylen was born on August 10, 1922 in Melrose, a daughter of the late Leonard J. Leving and M. Teresa (Grassie) Leving.Raised and educated in Melrose, Marylen graduated from Melrose High School and attended Boston University.She worked as an executive assistant for Lever Brothers in Cambridge for 25 years and for Loomis Sayles in Boston for 20 years.
Marylen was a spirited woman who loved travelling and skiing.She travelled extensively across the world and finally gave up downhill skiing for cross-country in her seventies.She was a founding member of the Melrose Hickory Hawks Ski Club in Glen, NH.Marylen was a member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church where she was a Deaconess, and had worked at the Kappa Swap Shop on Upham Street for many years.During the summer months, she enjoyed being a resident of Newbury where she loved her daily swims.
She was the loving sister of Leonard Leving of Menlo Park, CA, Alma P. MacIver of Fall River, Ronald D. Leving of Littleton, and Connie M. Rand of Melrose.Dear aunt of Beth Ferreira of CA, Heather "Bonnie" Ciullo of Fall River, Gail Yako of Haddonfield, NJ, Jeffrey Leving of TX, Cheryl Valvo of CA, Bob Rand of Falmouth, ME, Lisa Bernardino of Georgetown, David Rand of Winthrop, Dean Rand of Melrose, and Steven Rand of Avon. Also lovingly survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Marylen's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, April 1 from 2-6 PM and again for her Funeral Service celebrated at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St., Melrose, on Monday at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in her memory may be made to the Remembrance Fund at the Church or a charity of your choice.
