Mrs. Merle C. (Gibbons) MacLean of Melrose, died Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2008 at her home in Melrose surrounded by her loving family.She was 79 years old.
Merle was born June 1, 1929 in Melrose, MA, the daughter of the late John F. Gibbons and Dorothy L. (Wright) Gibbons.She was a lifelong resident of Melrose andgraduated from Melrose High School, class of 1947.Merle was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.Merle's first job was as a hairdresser at Evelyn Marie's, after whichshe worked for Transitron Company in Melrose.She then worked doing quality control for 7 years at Automatic Radio Co. in Melrose until her retirement in 1975.Anyone who knew Merle knew that she was an avid reader and that she loved doing arts and crafts.She also really loved to shop.
Merle was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. MacLean with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.Loving mother of John F. MacLean and his wife Fredie of Melrose, Merle C. Pontius and her husband John of Chimacum, WA, Derralyn Crider and her husband William of Raymond, NH, and the late Robert D. MacLean.Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
