Mr. Michael J. Finamore, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014 in Medford, at age 82.
Michael was born on July 8, 1931 in Boston, one of two sons of Giuseppe and Adelina (Cogliano) Finamore of Italy. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Michael returned home and lived in Winthrop for several years and on October 17, 1959, he and Joan Livingston were married at St. Joseph's Church in Malden.They settled in Malden and spent 54 devoted years of marriage together.
Michael attended Northeastern University and after two years, began taking classes at the Lowell School of MIT.After graduating from MIT, he began a long and rewarding career employed by General Electric as a Field Engineer in medical devices.
A very significant part of Michael's life was a summer retreat in Amherst, New Hampshire.A place for rest and relaxation, the A-frame structure on Baboosic Lake was where he and Joan got away from it all. Michael made countless memories and shared many laughs with summer friends who over the years became more like family."Uncle Mike" as he was known, spent summer weekends sailing on his wooden boat, roaming around the shops in town with Joan, and made many good natured attempts at waterskiing.The cottage in Amherst meant so much to Mike, and he loved bringing his family and friends together to enjoy the lake together.
While at home in Malden, Michael enjoyed the outdoors, and caring for his many plants and flowers within his large garden.He was a faithful and devoted member of Incarnation Parish where he served as an altar server for many years.Later in life, he and Joan also loved the adventure of going on cruises to different parts of the world.They visited Europe, Antarctica, Canada, South America and for the last 10 years took a yearly cruise from Boston to Bermuda.
Michael was the beloved husband of Joan (Livingston) Finamore with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Dear brother of the late John Finamore, and his wife Martha of Winchester. Loving uncle of John Finamore, Jr. of Winchester, and Linda Godoy and her husband Joe of NY.Cherished nephew of Marion Panarello of Malden. Loving great uncle of Alyssa Rohmer of Winchester, and Leigh Spellman and her husband Michael of CA.Also survived by several dear cousins, and many close and longtime family-friends.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Michael's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, May 4 from 2-6PM, and again on Monday morning at 9:00AM before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment with US Air Force honors in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
