Mrs. Mildred E. (Ratcliffe) Grace, a resident of Wakefield and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2011, at Bear Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 99.
Mildred Ratcliffe was born on July 19, 1912 in Everett, one of seven children of the late Edward F. Ratcliffe and Annie (Rogers) Ratcliffe.
Mrs. Grace was raised and educated in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School with the class of 1931.She studied nursing at the New England Deaconess Hospital where she graduated in 1934 and worked until 1940.She then worked as a Registered Nurse at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and Greenview Manor Nursing Home in Wakefield for many years.She was a longtime member of the Greenwood Union Church where she taught Sunday School and was active with the Mother's Wheel and Mr. and Mrs. Club.
Mildred loved painting often using watercolors, oil paint and charcoal.She also enjoyed researching genealogy and will be lovingly remembered as the family historian.
She was the beloved wife of the late Walter H. Grace with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Richard E. Grace and his wife Carol of Wakefield, Frederick W. Grace and his wife Maryellen of Stoneham, and Douglas W. Grace and his wife Barbara of Wakefield.Dear sister of Ruth Wood of Burlington, NC, and the late Margaret H. Sargent, Edward "Ted" Ratcliffe, Harland Ratcliffe, Marion Moore, and Edith Ratcliffe.Cherished grandmother of Lisa A. Fuller, Daniel R. Grace, Thomas M. Grace, Gregory M. Grace, Stephen M. Grace, Jennifer A. Diecidue and Michael D. Grace.Loving great-grandmother of Hannah, Kaydan, Ashlee, Justin, Abigail, Christopher, Emmaleigh, AJ and Brandon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, Friday, August 5 at 12:00 PM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8 PM.Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
