Mildred A. (Murphy) “Auntie Mil” Murray, of Stoneham and former longtime resident of Everett, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at age 101.
Mildred was born in Everett on June 27, 1921, one of five children of the late Joseph F. Murphy and Mary (Dore) Murphy. A 90-year resident of Everett, Mil was raised in Everett, graduated from Everett High School and raised her own two children in Everett.
Raised during the Great Depression, Mildred entered the workforce after high school, and continued working throughout her long life. From 1940 until 1954, she worked in machine manufacturing of WWII warheads at Sexton Can Company in Everett. She then worked as a timekeeper for Fox & Ginn Trucking Co. and later as a bookkeeper for the Gas Company for many years. Hard working and honest, Mil had a long working career, but at her core she was a family woman.
After the loss of her first husband Johnny Keefe, she was blessed to meet and fall in love a second time to Edwin “Ted” Murray. She and Ted enjoyed 31 years together of travel, family and fun. Full of life and laughter, Mil loved dancing every Saturday night at Wonderland Ballroom. In her free time Mil enjoyed needle point, knitting, bingo, cooking, and walked regularly. She enjoyed sharing Tuesday nights knitting and gabbing with her dearest friend “Aunt Margaret.” Most importantly, she never missed a party or an excuse for one. She wore her Irish heritage proudly, often knitting or doing embroidery work celebrating her families roots in Ireland. With a gift for gab and an easy smile, Mil loved being around her family and friends, often punctuating her stories with her trademark humor.
Most of all, Auntie Mil set an example for all to follow with her effortless love and support for family. She was well respected by all who knew her, and will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered. May she rest in peace.
Auntie Mil was the beloved wife of the late Edwin A. “Ted” Murray with whom she shared 31 years of marriage, and the late John J. Keefe with whom she shared 18 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Pamela A. O’Keefe and her husband Jack of Stoneham, Sean M. Keefe and his wife Donna of N. Billerica, Kathryn Giordano and her husband Jerry of Hopkinton, NH, and the late Josephine Murray. Dear sister of the late Helen Babin, Mary O’Donnell, Marjorie Forbes, and John Murphy. Cherished grandmother of Mary Yates and her husband Nathan of Milford, Christopher Murray and his wife Marianne of Londonderry, NH, Kimberly Clisbee and her husband Chris of Los Angeles, CA, and Edward “Teddy” Orben and his wife Jaunelle of Hopkinton, NH. Loving great-grandmother of Harrison, Tyler, Gemma, Ayden, Leilani, and Colten. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Auntie Mil’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 4-8pm, and again on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for her Funeral Service celebrated at 10am.
