Mildred A. Vranas

Mrs. Mildred A. Vranas, a resident of Melrose and formerly of Lee, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2010 surrounded by her beloved family at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Vranas was born in Pittsfield on February 27, 1921, a daughter of the late Frank J. Abele and Nellie (Hoffen) Abele.

She graduated from Lee High School, Class of 1940.She worked for the Lee Oil Co. as an office clerk and later for Home Gas Corp. of Housatonic from 1956 until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Pittsfield Business and Professional Women's Club and volunteered for the Town of Lee on the election committee. Mildred was an active member for many years of the First Congregational Church of Lee.She and her late husband, Stames, were members of the Grenock Country Club where they enjoyed playing singles and doubles golf.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, the late Stames J. Vranas who passed away in November of 2007. Devoted mother of Susan E. Cinella and her husband Ted of Melrose and Diane M. Vranas and her fiancé Ken Kwalik of Saratoga Springs, NY. Dear sister of Doris Clark of Lenox and the late Frank Abele, Jr. Cherished grandmother of Lisa Cinella of Saugus, Denise Kaliris and her husband Bill of Melrose, Steven Cinella and his wife Mariann of Medford, and Kelley Piscitelli and her husband Travis of Summerville, SC. Loving great-grandmother of William, Dillonand Matia Kaliris, Teddy and Caitlin Cinella, Lucas and Landen Piscitelli. She also leaves several nieces and nephews as well as the wonderful nurses and caregivers who provided exceptional care for Mildred at the Linden Unit of Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center.

A Funeral Service in honor and remembrance of Mildred's life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose, Tuesday, March 16 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, Monday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center, Attn: Linden Unit, 120 Murray St., Medford, MA 02155 or the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
