Nancy A. (Stevens) Mader, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at the Coleman House in Northborough on Friday, September 29, 2023, at age 84.
Nancy was born in North Conway, NH on February 14, 1939, one of two children of the late Leonard W. Stevens and Annie G. (Boyington) Stevens. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School. A dedicated mother, she raised her three children, and returned to the workforce as a Secretary at Clover, a produce market in Everett. Later in life, she worked in Melrose at Shaw's where she often delighted in catching up with new and old friends.
Nancy had an appreciation for nature, especially the mountains of New Hampshire where she enjoyed visiting in the fall nearly every year. A longtime, active member of First Congregational Church, Nancy sang in the Choir and was a member of Circle #4 for many years. Nancy was also an avid reader, and was a passionate watcher of Jeopardy!
In her free time, she enjoyed puzzles, both crossword and jigsaw, and playing Bingo, but most of all was known for her love of people. Whether a quick or long chat, a warm meal, or a listening ear, Nancy was a great source of strength and love for her family. As a longtime resident of Melrose, she endeared herself to many and developed lasting friendships that brought her joy. As the oldest of many grandchildren, she learned the art of caretaking from a young age, and always had an open door for friends or relatives. With a big heart, Nancy loved unconditionally.
Nancy will be deeply and sorely missed, but her love of family, her warm spirit, and love for people will live on in the hearts and minds of her family.
Nancy was the beloved mother of Debbie Spurr of Bronson, FL, Laura Knowles and her husband Arthur of Upton, and Cindy Grigg and her husband Chris of Billerica. Dear brother of the late Robert Stevens. Cherished grandmother of Jeffrey, Jessica, Joshua, Daniel, Jacob, Zachary, and Madelyn. Loving great-grandmother of Lucas, Jareth, Whyatt, and Kullan.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 4-7pm, and at the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose for her Funeral Service on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 10:30am. To watch the livestream of the service, please click here .
