Mrs. Natalie E. (Smith) Skaare, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 1, 2013, at age 93.
Natalie was born on May 29, 1920 in Melrose, one of three children of the late Thomas H. and Alice (Hallahan) Smith.She was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School where she played softball.On February 25, 1945 she married Arnold W. Skaare and they settled in Melrose to raise a family.Natalie worked as the Office Manager for the Melrose Evening News.
People of all ages were drawn to Natalie's caring heart and kind spirit.She had an ability to become fast friends with people of all ages and had a genuine interest in being nice to people she met.She enjoyed travelling and enjoyed trips with her mother and sister to Ireland, Scandinavia, and Italy.With husband Arnold, she enjoyed RV travel in their Winnebago around New England.
Natalie was the beloved wife of the late Arnold W. Skaare with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.Loving mother of Robert A. Skaare and his wife Carolyn of Melrose, and Richard A. Skaare and his wife Jane of Mechanicsburg, PA.Dear sister of the late Thomas H. Smith and Shirley Antico.Cherished grandmother of Robert Skaare II of Columbia, MD, Jonathan Skaare of Oakland, CA, Kathleen Skaare of Newton, Jason Skaare of New York City, and Justin Skaare of Venice, CA.Loving great-grandmother of Jackson Skaare.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Natalie's life at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, September 7 from 9-10 AM followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 10 AM.Gifts in Natalie's memory may be made to the Melrose Public Library, 69 West Emerson St. Melrose, MA 02176.
