Neil F. Cadigan, III, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.He was 69 years of age.
Neil was born on December 15, 1944 in Medford, one of three children of the late Neil F. Cadigan, Jr. and Evelyn (Muise) Cadigan. He graduated from Medford High School where he played baseball and hockey. Neil served in the US Army before receiving his accounting degree from Bentley University. On July 17, 1977, he married May Kuhn and they settled in Melrose.
Mr. Cadigan worked for the Comm. of Massachusetts Racing Commission for over 30 years. He worked at the racetracks, Wonderland and Suffolk Downs, where he enjoyed his work in the Accounting Department until retiring in 2000.
Neil had a quick wit, and loved reminiscing about "the good old days." He loved watching the Red Sox at home with his family where he was most comfortable. A former baseball player, Neil enjoyed talking to his daughter about the fine details of pitching.Neil also loved World War II history, and fishing especially in New Hampshire or Spot Pond.Neil will be lovingly remembered for his love of family, and his devotion to his wife and daughter.
Neil was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Kuhn) "May" Cadigan with whom he shared 37 years of marriage. Devoted father of Tracy M. Cadigan of Malden. Dear brother of Nancy Caliri and Judith Casullo, both of Humarock.Caring brother-in-law of Marjorie Kuhn of Fairview, NJ, and the late Linda Kenepp. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Neil's life at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Friday, June 27 from 4-8pm, and again on Saturday morning at 9am before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am.
