Norma Hopkins of Stoneham died Thursday evening January 27, 2005 at the St. Camillus Health Center in Northbridge, MA after a long illness. Norma was born in Melrose March 24, 1925, daughter of the late George H. Jackman and Laura (Brown) Jackman.
Norma graduated from Melrose High School in 1943 and the Bouve Boston School at Tufts in 1947.She was an alumna of Northeastern University and a member of the Oppos Social Club.Norma was the first married female teacher at Melrose High School, where she taught Physical Education and dance until the birth of her children.She also worked at the Woburn YMCA as a Water Exercise Instructor, and for the Town of Reading as a Senior Citizen Exercise and Square Dance Instructor.Norma volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church in Stoneham, at the North School PTA, and for the Girl Scouts of America.She also devoted her time to helping in the Town of Stoneham as a Poll and Election Volunteer. She was an active long time member of the First Baptist Church, Stoneham. Norma enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Lake Winnipesaukee and visiting her sister Arlene McGuire at Siesta Key, Florida.She taught her children to swim and water-ski.She was a devoted and relieved Red Sox and Patriots Fan, who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, had a wonderful green thumb, and a tremendous love for animals of all kinds. Norma was the wife of the late Stephen A. Hopkins.Mother of Cynthia H. Benedetti of Stoughton, Priscilla H. Lenzuolo and her husband Michael of Mendon, DianaH. Jenkins and her husband Michael of North Reading, Stephen J. Hopkins and his wife Annmarie of Watertown.Sister of the late Arlene J. McGuire. Grandmother of Laura Benedetti, of Stoughton, M. Joseph Lenzuolo and Katy Lenzuolo, both of Mendon,Melissa Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins andMichael A. Jenkins, Jr., all of North Reading and S. Ryan Hopkins, Courtney E. Hopkins and Jackman M. Hopkins, all of Watertown.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Wednesday February 2 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park inPeabody.
