Mrs. Norma F. (Cunningham) Worthylake, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 96.

Norma was born on September 16, 1917 in Sherborn, one of five children of the late Stinson and Esther Cunningham.She was raised in Framingham, and moved to Wilcox Hall in Malden while she worked in Boston.She made many longtime friends at Wilcox Hall and before long settled in Malden with her husband Ned to raise a family.She belonged to several Bridge Clubs, and became a member of the Centre Methodist Church in Malden. She worked for 29 years for Allis Chalmers before her retirement in 1979.

Her retirement afforded additional time to enjoy her favorite pastime, golfing.She was a longtime avid golfer and raised her family to enjoy the game as well.

Norma was a devoted family woman.She loved spending time with her children, and especially enjoyed just watching and listening to her grandchildren.She enjoyed being with the whole family for birthdays, holidays, games of Parcheesi, or Sunday dinners.

Always elegant and classy, Norma was kind hearted to everyone she met.She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin J. "Ned" Worthylake with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Marsha L. Mackie and her fiancé Richard Dutile of Hooksett, NH, and Deborah R. Benson and her husband Joseph of Billerica.Dear sister of the late Gladys Edmands, Edna McHatton, Nina Berg, and Raymond Cunningham.Cherished grandmother of Tamara Mackie, Heather Larson and her husband Bryan, Jill Benson, and Matthew Benson and his wife Pamela, all of Billerica. Loving great-grandmother of Connor Benson.Loving sister-in-law of Ruthie Worthylake of Melrose, Ruth White of Walpole, and Marion Jones of VT.Also survived by Jerry and Jimmy Worthylake and families, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Norma's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, May 14 from 4-8 PM, and again on Thursday where he Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM.
